These pretty colors and odd shapes are the remnants of plastics lost in the sea.
The students of Ka Papa Kai learned today that when seabirds mistake the plastic bits for food, they fill up with them, stop eating because they feel full, then starve to death due to a lack of nutrition. Mahalo to Sustainable Coastlines for collecting these from our local beaches. They do a fantastic job helping to make the ocean a healthier place for all marine life. Our students used these pieces to create cool art 😃. ♻🐠
